K-12 Physical Education
Tiffany Cole will begin her third year of teaching as the physical education teacher here at South Haven. She still plans to coach high school volleyball and assist Mr. Hughes with high school girls basketball. Tiffany is the assistant athletic director. With her husband, Jason, she has two children, Aiden and Gyler.

PEGGY FRIEOUF
K-12 Librarian/English 6
Peggy Frieouf will begin her twenty-sixth year in education and her ninth year as librarian at South Haven. Peggy and her husband, Jerry, live on a wheat/cattle farm east of Braman, OK. They have two sons and one daughter. Jeff is married to Amber, and they live in Blackwell, OK. Jeff is employed with Southern Star Energy and his wife, Amber, is a hair stylist in Tonkawa, OK. Jennifer is a pre-school teacher in Stillwater, OK. Mark will be attending NOC in Tonkawa this fall. In her spare time, Peggy enjoys working in her yard and reading good books.

KELLY HUGHES
K-12 Counselor
This will be Kelly’s second year at South Haven as the counselor. Mrs. Hughes received her bachelor’s degree at Southwestern College and will complete her master’s in May 2010 through Northwestern Oklahoma State University. She has taught for eleven years before coming to South Haven. She and her husband, David, live between South Haven and Braman and have three children. Megan will start her first year teaching English/Journalism at Atchinson High School. Rachel is a hair stylist in Kansas City, MO, and Kellen is attending OUHSC in Oklahoma City earning his Doctor of Physical Therapy.

SUSAN JOHNSTON 7-12 IRC Susan will split her time again this year between South Haven and Caldwell. Mrs. Johnston earned both her B.S. and M.S. from K-State and has taught for a total of 28 years, 20 have been with Interlocal 619 of Wellington. She and her husband, Rob, live in Caldwell and have two sons. One is farming in Harper and the other works for Cenex in Manhattan. Susan’s paras this year will be Bret Cales and Deborah Yunker.

ARLENE WILSON
Elementary Art/HS Computer Graphics
Arlene Wilson will begin her second year of teaching elementary art and Computer Graphics at South Haven. She will also be teaching high school art and Computer Graphics at Caldwell in the afternoons. Arlene earned her teaching degree from Oklahoma State University and taught art at Trout Elementary in Ponca City for seven years. She lives on a farm near Braman with her husband John and their two children, Luke and Sara.

PAT POWELL
Title I & JH Reading
Pat Powell and her husband, David, live in Caldwell. David is a math teacher at Maize High School. Michael, their oldest son, is a cancer survivor and a systems analyst at OSU. Their second son, Kevin, is a mortgage loan officer for City Wide Mortgage in Overland Park. Their oldest daughter, Sarah, is the Administrator at the Presbyterian Manor in Arkansas City. She is married and has two children . Their youngest daughter, Erin, is a program analyst for the Governor’s Office of Grants and Other Federal Programs in Topeka. Mrs. Powell earned her Bachelor’s degree from Emporia State University and Wichita State University. She earned a Master’s degree in Education from Southwestern College in Winfield in 1989 and her reading specialist certification from Emporia State University in 1990. This will be Mrs. Powell’s twenty-sixth year of teaching. She will be a Title I teacher in the elementary classrooms and teach Reading 6 & 8 and Social Studies 6 in addition to Title I. She will also be the scholar’s bowl coach for both the junior and senior high, the NHS sponsor, and the senior class sponsor.

SONDRA SHORT
JH/HS Instrumental & Vocal
Sondra Short will begin her seventh year at South Haven as vocal and instrumental music teacher. She lives in Wellington with her husband Robert and has three daughters: Christine, Erica, & Stephanie. Sondra’s granddaughter Savannah, also lives with her. Sondra’s daughter Christine teaches third grade at Argonia Elementary. Erica is working towards her degree as a dental assistant, and Stephanie just graduated this past year from Wellington High School.

DENNIS THURMAN
JH/HS Industrial Arts
Dennis Thurman will teach industrial arts for a fourth year at South Haven. After teaching for thirty years, he has been teaching half time in Caldwell and half time in South Haven. He lives in Caldwell with his wife, Patricia, and their daughter, Ami. He has a son and daughter-in-law with a baby girl living in Lawrence, KS and a daughter and son-in-law in Enid, Oklahoma.

KYANE BERLINE
Mathematics/JH Leadership/ Computer Applications/VPL
Kyane will begin her fifth year at South Haven. She started as a para but moved into a teaching position the last couple of years. She is currently the HSVB assistant coach and is registered by the KSHSAA as an official for basketball. She has two children, Ivy and Ezra.

CINDY BLUNK
Family and Consumer Sciences/ 8th Grade Social Studies
Cindy Blunk will begin her fourteenth year at South Haven as instructor for Family and Consumer Sciences and FCCLA sponsor. Mrs. Blunk will also teach JH Social Studies for 8th Grade and an 8th Grade Introduction to FACS class. Cindy and her husband, Jerry, live in Wellington and have three children—Michelle, Heidi, and Jerry. Mrs. Blunk loves to cook and to experiment with new recipes. She also enjoys quilting, needlework, gardening, and home projects.

MELINDA BYERS
JH/HS Computers Applications/ Math 6 & 8/Pre-Algebra/Accounting
Melinda Byers is ready to start her nineteenth year at South Haven. She teaches a variety of junior high and high school math and computer classes. Melinda and her husband, Brian, have two children, Brianna and Bryce. Briana will be attending WSU this fall and Bryce will be a freshman.

WAYNE GREENLEE
English/Journalism
Wayne Greenlee will return for his eigthteenth year at South Haven and his seventh year as the English and journalism instructor. Mr. Greenlee earned his bachelor’s degree at Kansas State University and his master’s degree at Emporia State University. This year he will teach JH Seminar 7, English 8, 11, & 12, and Journalism.

DAVID HUGHES
Social Science/Weight Training
David is beginning his thirtieth year here at South Haven teaching social studies and weight training as well as coaching a variety of sports. His wife Kelly is the counselor here at South Haven. They have three children: Megan, Rachel, and Kellen. This year he will teach Social Studies 7, Geography, American History, Government, and Weight Training I/II/III.

LORENE McQUIN
Mathematics
Lorene McQuin is returning for her thirteenth year at South Haven as the mathematics instructor. She resides in Wellington with her husband, Scott, and has two daughters, Amanda and Christiana. She will be teaching Algebra I/II, Geometry, and HS Seminar.

VIRGINIA METZINGER
English/Spanish
Mrs. Metzinger will begin her eighteenth year of teaching at South Haven where she is currently teaching English 7, 9, 10, English Composition I/II, and Spanish I/II. In addition, Mrs. Metzinger teaches three hours in the IDL lab where she teaches five other schools in College English and foreign language. Her sponsored activities include: Director of Theatre Arts & Forensics and 7th grade class. She resides in a country home west of Caldwell with her husband, Marion.

Vocational Agriculture
This will be James Ryan’s thirty-third year as vocational agriculture instructor and FFA advisor at South Haven. His wife, Kay, is retired from teaching English and journalism at Arkansas City High School. They have one daughter, Jennifer, who is married.

TWAILA WILEY
JH/HS Science
Twaila Wiley is returning for her tenth year as South Haven’s science teacher. She is married to Jason and they have two daughters, Ciara and Cynae, and a son, Slade. Twaila enjoys teaching people how to preserve their pictures with her Creative Memories Scrapbooking business. She is looking forward to a great year teaching Science 6, 7, 8, Biology, and Chemistry.
