The monthly meeting of the Board of Education of USD 509 was held on Monday, September 14, 2009 at 8:00 pm in the district office immediately following the Junior Varsity football game with the following present: Todd Ray, Amy Brown, Chris Deyoe, Delmer Spencer Jr, Sharon Mason, John Showman, Kim White, and Suzy Davidson.

Following the adoption of the agenda, the minutes of the regular board meeting of August 10, 2009 were read and approved.

The Board reviewed the general fund summary and purchase orders and gave approval to pay the September warrants.

Sharon Mason gave an update on Interlocal #619 and John Showman gave an update on governmental relations. Activity Fund accounts and reports were reviewed by the board.

Discussion was held on the following with no action taken: A September informal Joint Board meeting with Caldwell’s board, a formal Board meeting to take place on October 19th, strategic planning for the district, and the band trip to the state fair with transportation costs to be covered by student activity participation fees.

In other action, the Board voted to approve the district’s Emergency Preparedness & Response Plan for H1N1, and to approve the district’s technical education Program Improvement Plans for the 2009-2010 school year.

Mrs. White gave the monthly Principal’s Report which included a report on the league business, homecoming activities which include community service projects, the character education program, and a report on an excellent start to the school year for both students and staff.

Mr. Showman’s monthly Superintendent’s report included information on the upcoming KASB Regional meeting, an update on technology, a report on the repairs to the football scoreboard, the water leak repairs on the track, an update on enrollment numbers and an update on the conversion of the old locker rooms into the new tornado shelter.

The meeting was closed at 9:45 pm.
