The monthly meeting of the Board of Education of USD 509 was held on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 7:00 pm in the school library with the following present: Todd Ray, Amy Brown, Glennis Zimmerman, Delmer Spencer Jr, Sharon Mason, Chris Deyoe, Brett Butler, John Showman, Kim White, Suzy Davidson and several patrons, parents and staff.
Several guests addressed the board concerning the consolidation issue. Those patrons addressing the board were David Brown, Twaila Wiley, Charlotte Smith, Jeff Ralls, Bryan Smith, Garratt Locke, Suzie Bacon, Bryon Bacon, Tim Turek, Joe Dickey, Jason Messenger and Michele Barlow.
Following the adoption of the agenda, the minutes of the regular board meeting of February 10, 2010, the February 23, 2010 special board meeting and the joint board meeting of March 2, 2010 were read and approved.
The Board reviewed the general fund summary and purchase orders and approved the February warrants for payment.
Sharon Mason gave an update on Interlocal #619, and Glennis Zimmerman gave an update on governmental relations.
Discussion was held on the following with no action taken: Discussion and development of a consolidation contract with Caldwell USD 360 and the time and method for the public vote considering consolidation with the best possibility for that vote being May 18, 2010.
In other action, the Board voted 5-2 to pass the resolution to consolidate Unified School Districts Numbers 509 and 360; voted against a $300 donation from the District to After Prom; voted to elect Glennis Zimmerman, Todd Ray and Amy Brown for the transition board of USD 360/509; and voted to approve a contract for insurance with the Allied Group at approximately $3,000 less than last year’s contract;
Following executive sessions for the discussion of negotiations, personnel and student issues, no action was taken.
Mrs. White gave the monthly Principal’s Report which included a Site Council report (given by Twaila Wiley), a League meeting update, State Assessment testing report, an update on Driver’s Education, a report on a former 2001 graduate who is now in the Peace Corps, and gave the board a tour of students’ woods projects.
