Commissioner Watson Celebrates USD 509 Receiving the Commissioner's Award with Highest Distinction

On Monday, November 7th, State Commissioner of Education Dr. Randy Watson visited South Haven schools. He spent part of the afternoon visiting classrooms and delivering cookies to celebrate USD 509 staff and students earning the Commissioner's Award with Highest Distinction. This award is given to districts that perform two or more standard deviations above the expected level for that district. USD 509 staff and students worked together to outperform their predictive scores and challenges in the areas of poverty, chronic absenteeism, and student mobility.
 
South Haven was also awarded the following from the Star Recognition program: 
  • Social-Emotional Growth - Bronze
  • Graduation - Silver
  • Postsecondary Effectiveness - Silver
