USD 509 Information on Testing And Surveys

The Kansas State Department of Education provides opportunities for students to take the ACT, Pre-ACT, and ACT WorkKeys tests, *free of charge, at the student's school of attendance. The following tests are available to South Haven students: 

All tests will be given at South Haven High School starting at 8:00am

Pre-ACT* (October 10, 2023)
All South Haven 9th graders will take the Pre-ACT. No registration is needed.

PSAT (October 17, 2023)                                                                                                                                               Selected juniors will take by registering.

ACT WorkKeys* (November 8, 2023)
Any South Haven junior may take the state-sponsored ACT WorkKeys. Click here to register.

ACT (Spring, 2024)
Any South Haven junior may take the state-sponsored ACT test. All South Haven juniors are automatically registered to take the state-sponsored ACT.

Other national test dates are available for the ACT. A fee payment or voucher is required to register for a national ACT test date. You can find more information here: ACT Website

Kansas Communities That Care Student Survey
 
Only required for grades 6, 8, 10, and 12

 

USD 509 administers the Kansas Communities That Care Student Survey*. This survey is taken by 6th, 8th, 10th, and 12th grade students statewide. This survey is a valuable tool to help the school understand how students behave, think and feel about alcohol, marijuana and other durg use, bullying and school safety. The KCTC survey measures teen substance use, delinquency, and related problem behaviours in schools and communities. The survey gives insight into the problems students face and shows what the school can do to help them succeed. The information is important for planning effective prevention programs in our school and community and provides data to assist in applying for grant funding.

You may also interested to know the following:

  1.  It is completely anonymous. Students will not be asked for their names on the questionnaire, nor will anyone be able to connect any individual student with his/her responses. School staff will not see any one student's responses, but only summaries of results.
  2. Participation is entirely voluntary. Your child may decline to participate in the survey, or may simply skip any particular question they do not wish to answer.
  3. Annual participation is important. Even if your child has participated in previous surveys, annual data is extremely helpful in determining the effectiveness of previous efforts and changes in program areas
