Computer Security & Internet AUP Student Contract

All users must assume the following responsibilities:

  1. Students will be required to use school-issued devices for all general classroom use. Personal devices, or “B.Y.O.D.” devices, will not be permitted for general classroom use, and may not be connected to the school network at any time. Exemption: Any student who has been approved to use a personal device prior to April 1, 2021 may continue to use that device so long as they have a signed Personal Technology Usage Agreement on file, and they agree to allow USD 509 to manage and control the device.
  2. It is the user’s responsibility to treat all equipment with care and to report instances of abuse or misuse as soon as
the user becomes aware of them. Each user is expected to report any malfunction or problem on a computer assignment form and submit to the District Technology Director.
  3. All users are prohibited from allowing other individuals to access or update information under their security authorization (username and password). Users will be held accountable for all computer activity performed under their security authorization.
  4. A user and/or parent/guardian is responsible to pay all repair and/or replacement costs if the user vandalizes or otherwise intentionally damages any District hardware or software, or if district hardware is damaged due to negligence or misuse. By signing this contract, you expressly agree to    be responsible for payment of costs incurred. The user will be referred to the building administration for appropriate discipline, including, but not limited to, suspension from or denial of access to all District computers.
  5. A user who tampers with or attempts to gain access to computer data to which the user has no security authorization is in violation of school policy.
  6. The school district reserves the right to monitor, without prior notice, any and all usage of the computer network, district Internet access, and district-owned devices, including, but not by way of limitation, e-mail transmissions and receptions, and all internet and network activity. Any information gathered during monitoring may be copied, reviewed, and stored. All such information files shall be and remain the property of the school district, and no user shall have any expectation of privacy regarding his/her use of the computer network, the district Internet, or district-owned device.
  7. A user will follow the Internet Acceptable Use Policy (found in the student handbook).

All users disregarding these responsibilities will be considered in violation of the U.S.D. 509 Computer Security and Acceptable Use Policy. In addition to violating District Policy, users may be subject to prosecution under the copyright laws of the United States of America and/or Kansas Statute 21-3755.
